Great Backyard Bird Count (all ages)
Participate in the Great Backyard Bird Count this February! This worldwide citizen science event allows anyone to take part in helping gather bird population data for scientists who simply can't be everywhere at once.
We will meet in a local park in Brooklyn Park and plan to look for birds for about 45 to 50 minutes. You will be given tips for viewing birds, instructions on how to use binoculars, how to record the bird data by hand and online, and learn how to use field guides, apps and websites to help with identification. The last ten minutes of the program, we will navigate through the website to record our data collected. Because we are meeting on the first day of the Great Backyard Bird Count, families can then take what they have learned and count birds in their own local parks, backyards, and other locations and take part in this citizen science project.
